Whether by big or small margins, the Cicero-North Syracuse indoor track and field teams left SRC Arena Friday night with both the girls and boys Section III Class AAA championships in its possession.
While the girls side won with 151 points well clear of Liverpool's second-place total of 94, on the boys side the Northstars held off Baldwinsville by three points, 113 to 110, to claim the top spot.
Tyler Graham got a valuable win when he ran 600 meters in one minute 27.14 seconds holding off the 1:27.31 from Liverpool's Brayden Smith as Jack Putman was fourth going 1:29.97.
Right after, in the 1,600-meter run the Northstars' Rhett Andrews sped to victory in 4:28.90 just beating out a 4:29.43 run by Fayetteville-Manlius' Kevin Heller. Then in the 55 hurdles Antwan Maxwell went 7.92 seconds beating teammate Jaiden Tagliarino's second-place 8.03.
Just as valuable for the Northstars was its 1-2 finish in the triple jump, Khais Johnson taking it with a top attempt of 42 feet 10 1/4 inches over the 41'2 3/4" of Antwaun Dixon with Prodigy Shepard fourth to go with his third in the long jump of 19'8 3/4".
Four points separated C-NS and B'ville in the 4x400 relay with the Northstars second in 3:35.24 just behind F-M's 3:34.81 and the Bees in fifth place. Later C-NS added a second in the 4x800 in 8:41.91 as Graham gained third place in the 300-meter dash in 37.76 seconds with Angel Cucenas fourth in 38.21.
Liverpool's fifth-place boys finish included a win by by Brady Petrella going 3,200 meters in 9:45.32, the only time under 10 minutes, as C-NS's Nolan Zinsmeyer finished fifth.
More exciting was the 55-meter dash where Ryan Anonye edged B'ville's Kayden Gilbert by two-thousandths of a second, 6.654 to 6.656, while the Northstars had Maxwell third in 6.86.
Anonye helped the Legends to second in the 4x200 relay in 1:34.85 with C-NS in fourth. Jamal Lesperance added a third in the pole vault clearing 10 feet, with Ade Adefashola third in the high jump topping 5'10" as Mike Esposito was sixth topping 5'6".
Stephanie Todd led teh way for the C-NS girls with two different titles. She beat the field in the 300 in 41.10 seconds, with Aaliyah McDonald third in 42.23 bfeore a triple jump where Todd won it with 35'4" and Samantha Moreno took second with 34'10" as Callie Bednarski finished fourth with 33'9 3/4"
During the girls sectional AA meet C-NS went 1-2 in the 55 hurdles as McDonald won in 8.12 seconds holding off Anna Eells in 8.20.Eells would prevail in the high jump clearing 5'6", while Julia Arnold prevailed in the shot put with a top throw of 38'8 1/2".
Sophia Graham won, too, her 1:38.39 in the 600 more than two seconds clear of the field that included Gianna Melfi fourth in 1:41.91.StephanieTodd, Callie Bednarski, Selena Moreno and Samantha Moreno were second in the 4x200 in 1:45.66 to Nottinghm's 1:45.44.
Mya Patti got second place in the 3,000-meter run in 10:49.10 with Kennedy Jones fourth going 10:59.52, Patti adding a fifth in the 1,500. The Northstars were second in the 4x400 relay in 4:12.38 ahead of Liverpool's third-place 4:21.04.
Maddie Devendorf won twice to lead the Liverpool girls. In the 55-meter dash Devendorf's 7.24 seconds edged the 7.26 from Todd and teammate Nahla Battle-Crenshaw.
Moving to the long jump Devendorf won again going 18'1 ¼" to beat out the 17'5" from Selena Moreno and 16'6" from Samantha Moreno. Devendorf also took second in the 300 in 41.29 just behind Todd with Battle-Crenshaw fourth in 42.84.
The Legends' Katie Martin second in the 1,000 in 2:59.80, while Maggie Sherlock took third place in the 3,000 in 10:50.82 and Gabrielle Hines was sixth matching Paige Baker's sixth in the 1,500.
Taima Tearney topped 5'2" in the high jump to finish second behind Eells and added a fourth in the long jump behind Devendorf.
Jaylin Pope cleared 6'6" in the pole vault for another second-place finish with Chelsea St. Amour fifth as Ese Uloho was third in the shot put going 31'8" and the Legends were third in the 4x800 in 10:17.07.
