Cicero-North Syracuse cheer captures 3rd straight winter title

The Cicero-North Syracuse winter cheer squad has shown a high level of dominance in Class A over the years.  That continued when the Northstars captured their third consecutive Class A crown at the Section III Competitive Cheer Championships on Saturday at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College.  "I'm just so proud of them," C-NS coach Sierra Colombini said. "We had our fair share of injuries, illnesses and setbacks this year, but the team's confidence took over. We deal with stuff like that every season, so making sure we're healthy until the end was the biggest thing."  West Genesee came in second and Liverpool took third in Class A competition.  C-NS's squad consists of seven seniors and 11 underclassmen.   "There is so much talent on this year's team," Colombini said. "Being able to do what they've done this season has made such a difference in competition."   Colombini noted that the Northstars have bounced back quickly after struggling in routines, adding that coaches have preached that hard work pays off.   "It's good for us," Colombini said. "Seeing them step up and redeem themselves after a routine or practice that doesn't go their way is something else."   C-NS, Indian River, Hannibal, Sandy Creek and Phoenix move onto the New York State Competitive Cheerleading Championships on March 7 at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.   "Class A at states is amazing and always has tough competition," Colombini said. "We're hoping to go as far as we can. We're excited to be there and (C-NS is) honored to represent Section III."
