"The girls played very well all game," C-NS coach Stephen Mirizio said. "Both teams battled back and forth. Our offense was able to move the ball today pretty well, but SAS was able to get some key defensive stops. ... It was a hard-fought battle and very well-earned."
It was the first-ever win for C-NS. The Northstars suffered a defeat against Syracuse East in their first game and battled to a tie against Oneida last Thursday.
"It's an honor to be a part of it." Mirizio said, "I'm so proud of these girls. It's an honor for them. Moving forward, it gives us a lot of confidence."
SAS (0-3) is still in search of its first win. The Atoms came up short against Baldwinsville and Syracuse West in their prior games. The next matchup for SAS comes on Friday against Oneida.
The focus for Cicero-North Syracuse (1-1-1) shifts to its upcoming game against Baldwinsville on Friday.
"Moving forward we build off this and take it week-to-week," Mirizio said. "Obviously we have high expectations for ourselves. ... We enjoy this win tonight, but going into tomorrow we move on to Baldwinsville."
