CNS Swimming & Diving Proves Teamwork Rules Air & Sea

The CNS Girls varsity Swim team kicked and leapt to its 3rd straight victory this week with big wins over Jamesville DeWitt (96-87) and Oswego-Mexico 98-88.  Perhaps the biggest suprise, was the up ending of the freshly minted conglomerate Oswego-Mexico, whose combined team consists of some of the very best in Section 3.  In event after event, the Stars overall depth,  along with its own superstar divers, relentlessly chiseled away at the "Tiger-Bucs".  The 200 medley relay team of Kate Gucciardi, Cassidy Svoboda, Leah Benedict, and Rose Coleman swam to an in season best time of 1:59.96 narrowly nudged by Osw-Mex in a time of 1:59.85.  Backing up the 2nd was Cassidy Payrot, Molly Gucciardi, Julia Kulakowski, and Maria Barbato securing a 2-3 finish for the Stars.  Osw-Mex, struck back in the next event with a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle, but the Stars made them pay in the 200 IM with Molly Gucciardi, Julia Kulakowski, and Katelyn Stewart placing 2-3-4 neutralizing the number one swimmer in Section 3, Alexa Von Holtz.  CNS struck big in the sprint events with Rose Coleman, Cassidy Svoboda, and Kaitlyn Carroll placing 1,3,4 in the 50 freestyle, and Kate Gucciardi, Rose Colman, and Natalina VanTassel placing 1,3,4 in the 100 freestyle.  Eighth grader Leah Benedict swam to a key 2nd place finish in the 100 butterfly with a scorching 1:05.69.  Ella Lawrence, Abby Bouziden, and Cassidy Payrot were able to split points in the 500 freestyle with Osw- Mex placing 2-3-5, and were able to duplicate the feat in the very next individual event, 100 backstroke that would see Payrot, Lawrence and VanTassel go 2-3-5, again neutralizing top swimmer Van Holtz.   The Star sharks were finally able to encircle the Tiger-Bucs when Cassidy Svoboda led the charge in the 100 breaststroke, placing 1st in a time of 1:16.69, followed by Molly Gucciardi, and Miranda Lenning.  With this, the Stars only needed to earn two more points going into the final relay event of the evening.  In the diving event, Kaitlyn Carroll kept the fans gasping in disbelief as she nearly touched the pool ceiling on every dive smashing the pool record set by previous CNS superstar diver, Miranda Frascatore(2015) with a score of 290.55.  Carroll was aided by sophomore Sopia Sugrue with a lifetime best score of 232.85.  The dynamic duo was able to pull a 1-2 finish, giving the Stars enough separation to pull away from Tiger-Bucs.  Carrolls smashing performance on the board, and record-breaking score earned her MVP of the meet.  The Northstars seek to use their versatility and depth to take out defending Section 3 champions, Fayetteville Manlius next Friday at Nottingam HS, 6pm.
