Girl's Swimming and Diving

Northstars Splash Back!

After a narrow loss to swimming & diving powerhouse, Skaneateles last week, the girls varsity swim team splashed back against CBA Wednesday night 93-83.  Leading the rebellion was the first place 200 medley relay quartet of Kate Gucciardi, Cassidy Svoboda, Leah Benedict, and Kaitlyn Carroll with a time of 2:01.90.  This was backed up with a solid 3rd place finish of Cassidy Payrot, Molly Gucciardi, Julia Kulakowski, and Maria Barbato.(2:09.91)  Leah Benedict (8) swam to a 2nd place finish in the 200 freestyle of 2:14.88 followed by freshman Molly Gucciardi (2:21.35) and Ella Lawrence (2:23.26).  Benedict further secured a key 2nd place in the 500 freestyle (6:08.36) with great support from Abigail Bouziden and Julia Kulakowski. The stars continued blasting away with laser focus as Kate Gucciardi raced to a come from behind victory in the 200 IM of 2:29.63 to CBA's Jenna Flihan 2:29.88.  Cassidy Svoboda was the fastest freestyler in the pool, storming to a nearly light-speed 27.45s 1st place finish in the 50 freestyle.  The divers dominated, slicing the water like energized photons with enough kinetic energy liberating them from Earth's gravitational field.  Kaitlyn Carroll posted a Section leading score of 273.30, followed by Sophia Sugrue (207.85).  Kate Gucciardi led a 1-2 blast with another key win in the 100 butterfly, followed by freshman Katelyn Stewart in a time of 1:12.83.  Rose Coleman led the charge in the 200 free relay propelling the stars to a 1st place finish of 1:50.36.  Cassidy Payrot swam an in season best in the 100 backstroke of 1:08.66 with Ella Lawrence and Haley Swenton supporting the surge.  The Stars face great opportunities next week against Jamesville-DeWitt and the freshly minted conglomerate Oswego-Mexico.  Go Stars!
