The Cicero-North Syracuse boys lacrosse team defeated visiting West Genesee in an overtime classic on Tuesday, 12-11. Northstars senior Anthony Cimino put in the game-winning goal with just under three and a half minutes left in the extra period.
"We were going to try and set (Cimino) on his left side, his strong side. We thought he had a good matchup on his man there all game," C-NS coach Nick Gatto said. "Aiden Long, a senior did a huge job for us on the draws. He won a huge draw in overtime for us." The hosts held a slim 3-2 lead after the first quarter and had increased the margin to 6-4 and 9-5 at the end of the second and third respectively. The Wildcats came storming back in the fourth with six goals though, including the final three of regulation.
Nicholas Louise put in his only goal of the game to knot it at 11 with 44 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
"It was a good atmosphere. They're a really good team. It was only a matter of time before they put a run together," Gatto said. "Our guys were able to stay mentally tough and keep at the task at hand."
Cimino finished the contest with a team-high seven points on three goals and four assists, while teammate Mason Ciciarelli added four goals. In the loss, Braeden McNeill had four goals and three assists, while Alex Rosa added one score and two helpers.
