Cicero-North Syracuse girls swimmers beat Oswego, Baldwinsville

Cicero-North Syracuse did compete, though, bouncing back from early defeat to F-M and Liverpool by taking on Oswego Tuesday at Nottingham High School and earning a 96-87 victory over the Buccaneers.  Right away, the Northstars got key points from the 200-yard medley relay, where Alayna Harbaugh, Cassidy Svoboda, Bryn Myers and Kate Gucciardi went one minute, 58.41 seconds to edge Oswego's second-place 1:59.21.  On her own, Myers beat out the Bucs' Aunna Metelsky, 58.65 seconds to 58.72, in the 100 freestyle, and finished second in the 50 freestyle in 26.02 seconds.  Similarly, Svoboda, who was third in the 100 butterfly, went to the top in the 100 breaststroke, her 1:17.91 just ahead of the 1:18.78 from Metelsky. With 228.67 points, Kaitlyn Carroll easily finished first in diving.  Gucciardi took second in the 200 freestyle in 2:16.59, with Ella Lawrence third (2:19.03), and later posted 1:06.60 in the 100 backstroke to beat out Alexa Kulakowski (1:11.83) for runner-up honors.  Brittany Wood, in 2:36.29, was second to the Bucs' Mallory Upcraft (2:31.18) in the 200 individual medley as Lawrence took second in the 500 freestyle in 6:16.92, edging Grace Devinney (6:18.72) in third.  C-NS got close in the 200 freestyle relay as Myers, Gucciardi, Wood and Harbaugh went 1:46.89 to the Bucs' 1:46.36, with Devinney and Kulakowski joining Wood and Carroll to take second in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:22.33.   When the Northstars went to Baldwinsville two days later, it prevailed again, relying on its depth to get a 51-42 decision over the Bees.   Gucciardi claimed a pair of individual races, beating B'ville's Madeline Sauro, 27.46 seconds to 28.40, in the 50 freestyle before she pulled away in the 100 freestyle, posting 59.57 seconds as Ella Lawrence (1:04.34) was second.   Myers claimed the 200 IM in 2:31.67 ahead of Kulakowski's 2:50.22 and later was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.74, edging Svoboda's 1:18.14.   C-NS also won the 200 freestyle relay, where Kulakowski, Devinney, Natalina VanTassel and Gianna Ranieri finished in 1:58.19. B'ville's Eva Smith led her side with wins in the 100 backstroke (1:00.22) and 100 butterfly (1:04.42).   The Northstars will also swim twice next week, at West Genesee Tuesday and Jamesville-DeWitt on Saturday.
