Girl's Swimming and Diving

Northstars Splashed by Spartans 99-86

Despite a valiant effort the girls varsity Swimming and Diving team fell to New Hartford 99-86.  The Spartans struck first with a 1-3 finish in the medley, taking an early lead.  In the next event, Kate Guicciardi was nudged by Isabella Freiberger 2:09.66 to 2:09.67.  The 200 IM would see the Spartans finish 1-2, building New Hartfords lead to 16, but CNS would not surrender.  Striking hard in the 50 freestyle Cassidy Svoboda took first with a 26.63, backed up by Gianna Ranieri taking third with a personal best, and Section 3 qualifying time of 28.61.  Next up in Diving event, the Spartans found themselves being thrashed by Section 3's perennial Diving juggernaut , with Kaitlyn Carroll, Sophia Sugrue, and Maria Scicchitano placing 1-2-4, cutting the Spartan lead to just 3 points.  Brittany Wood swan to a crucial 2nd place finish in the 100 Fly, along with a personal best by Anna Myers of 1:14.52, who also swam a PR in the 200 IM in a Section 3 qualifying time of 2:39.94.   Up next in the 100 free Gucciardi avenged her touch out with a convincing 1st place finish in 58.60.     Julia Kulakowski, and Ella Lawrence kept the meet close in the 500 free distance event, that also saw Abigail Bouziden swim a personal best, and Section 3 qualifying time of 6:23.78.  CNS down by 5, exploded in the 200 free relay, placing 1-3 with Gucciardi, Svoboda, Carroll, and Wood winning in a season's best time of 1:49.25, followed by VanTassel, Pafford, Ranieri, and Coleman in 1:56.52.   With this the Stars took a 1 point lead with 3 events to go.  Lawrence, Kulakowski and Cassidy Payrot swam strong in the 100 backstroke, as did Cassidy Svoboda in the 100 breaststroke, along with Kaitlyn Carroll, but the Spartans were able to pull out a win in the last relay placing 1-3. Next up for the Stars are the JD Rams Saturday morning at 9am.
