Girls Swimming and Diving Suffer Tough Losses

The Stars Swimmers and Divers paddled their way through the toughest week of the schedule facing the NYS 10th ranked FM Hornets on Tuesday, and the Class B Defending Champions, Jamesville DeWitt, on Thursday at Le Moyne College.     FM placed 1st in the 200 medley relay. The Stars Medley of Kate Gucciardi, Brittany Wood, Alayna Harbaugh, and Bryn Myers were able to fend off the Hornets B relay securing a second.  FM delivered a series of stinging races in every event demonstrating their worthy NYS ranking.  However, not even mighty unbeaten FM could stop the wasp swatting dynamo duo of Madeline Thorne and Kaitlyn Carroll from sweeping the diving event.    Eighth grade dynamo Kate Gucciardi was the only other 1st place finish for the Stars, coming from behind with atomic like energy to touch out FM's formidable star swimmer, Addie Antshel.  Alexa Kulakowski backed up Gucciardi in the backstroke with an in seasons best time of 1:09.26.  Grace Devinney swam to a seasons best of 6:03.02 in the 500 freestyle shoring up a much needed 2nd place.   Bryn Myers and Alayna Harbaugh continued to set a blistering pace in the sprint events, holding their own against the Hornets sprint stingers, but it was not enough to hold off the swarm of Hornets, and the Northstars fell 96-82.  With just one day to recover, the Lady aquanauts faced defending Class B sectional champions, Jamesville DeWitt on Thursday.  JD narrowly touched out the Stars in the 1st medley relay 1:58.70 to 1:59.44.  Bryn Myers set a new best mark in the 50 freestyle notching a 25.92 and a 58.04 in the 100 freestyle.   Madeline Thorne, and Kaitlyn Carroll again dominated the diving event, and remain unbeaten this year.   The race of the night proved to be the 500 freestyle, 20 lengths of the swimming pool, with Jeanne Vinnette putting on the show of the night with a spectacular come from behind first place finish, and season best time of 6:02.13.  Grace Devinney nearly snuck past the Red Rams best distance swimmer as well, finishing in 6:02.69 to the Red Rams Julia Antoine 6:02.35.  Great swims by the CNS backstrokers of Kate Gucciardi, Alexa Kulakowski, and Jenna Lenweaver were able to pull the splashers to within points of the Rams, but a 1-2 finish by JD in the 100 breaststroke solidified the JD win 96-87.  The squad will face Auburn and West Genesee next week.
