Upset Minded CNS Swimmers & Divers Tie Section 3 Powerhouse CBA, Swamp Oswego

There was a tangible sense of Northstar energy and willpower in the air at the Le Moyne college pool Tuesday night as the Stars faced off against a dominant CBA squad.  Right off the blocks the Northstars lady splashers put the dunk on CBA forcing a critical disqualification in the first event for the Brothers.   Stand out lifetime best times by sprinters Bryn Myers and Alayna Harbaugh helped CNS maintain a lead neutralizing CBA's top sprinter with times of 25.95 and 26.25 respectively.  Jeanne Vinette set a stinging pace in the 200 IM along with Erika Purdy and Brittany Wood outscoring CBA 9-7 in that event.   The legendary aqua-acrobat juggernaut tradition, carried on by Madeline Thorne and Kaitlyn Carroll, put on another amazing aerial performance in 1-meter diving, placing 1-2 in that event.  Kate Gucciardi scored an important 2nd place in the 100 butterfly to break up a potential CBA 1-2 finish, while Lillian Thorne swam to a best time of 1:16.29, backed up by Heather Leonardi.  Myers, Harbaugh, and Grace Devinney held the Brothers even in the 100-freestyle giving CNS a 13-point lead, but CBA would not be sunk easily.  Roaring back from a deficit, CBA chipped away during the next 4 events.  In the 2nd to last event of the evening, CNS clung to a 7-point lead.  What appeared to be a 1-2 finish in the 100 breaststroke by the Brothers, perhaps dashing any hopes of an upset win for the Stars, was broken up by Stars swimmer Brittany Wood charging from behind to tie CBA's Annah Nizar which gave CNS just a 2 point lead going into the final event.  CBA, saving its best swimmers for the last relay of the evening, were able to score a 1st place in the event, but the Stars mighty depth was once again on full display packing in a 2-3 finish leading to a rare tie - 92.5-92.5
With barely enough time to dry off, the squad made the trek to Oswego Thursday night facing a tough and motivated Oswego Squad.   Oswego pounded the Stars in the first event with  "Lake Effect" fury putting the team in an immediate deficit.  Eighth grader Kate Gucciardi, and Sophomore Bryn Myers put a stop to the BUCS Northwest gale in the 200-freestyle going 1-3.  Depth in the sprints allowed CNS to go up by 4, when a 1-2 finish by Carroll and Thorne in Diving pushed the lead to 9.  The BUCS roared back in the next two events cutting the lead back down to just two.  Kate Gucciardi went stroke for stroke with a tough Oswego opponent for 20 lengths of the pool in the 500-freestyle swimming a lifetime best of 5:49.39.  The Northstars dominant sprinters pulled off a 1-2 sweep in the 200-freestyle relay catapulting to a 12 point lead with 3 events remaining.   The Stars busted the BUCS for good in the remaining two events led by Brittany Wood with a crucial 1st place in the 100 Breaststroke solidifying a 99 - 86 win.   The Lady Northstars take on the NYS 10th ranked FM Hornets Tuesday night at the Le Moyne college pool, 7pm.
