Girls Swimming & Diving Surf to 93 - 77 win over Auburn

The water was on full boil Wednesday night at the Auburn YMCA as the Stars took on Auburn. The stars pounced early with a 1-3 finish in the 1st event. Grace Devinney, Brittany Wood, Alayna Harbaugh and Bryn Myers scored 1st in the 200 medley relay, backed up by the 3rd place finish of Alexa Kulakowski, Erika Purdy, Lillian Thorne, and Kaitlyn Carroll. Kate Gucciardi fought off Auburn swimmer Abby Smith, securing a 2nd place in the 200 freestyle, and Brittany Wood stepped up big in the 200 IM earning the Stars 1st individual win of the night with a 2:31.55. That same event saw Grace Devinney touching out Auburn's Izabella Dilallo giving the Star Surfers a crucial 1-2 finish pushing the lead to 10. Brittany Wood, Lillian Thorne, and Jeanne Vinette outscored the Maroons 9-7 in the 100 butterfly. However, Auburn would not go down easily, and erased the Stars 10 point lead in the next 3 events. After the 200 free relay, the meet was tied 62-62, with the Stars appearing to be on the ropes, and in need of a good wave to catch, backstrokers Grace Devinney, Jenna Lenweaver, and Alexa Kulakowski pounded Auburn with a 1-2-3 finish pushing the lead back to 10. Next in the 100 Breaststroke, CNS battled to a 1-2 finish, as Cassidy Svoboda finished 1st in 1:21.25, followed closely by Erika Purdy, 1:23.85 giving the Northstars an 18 point lead. A 2-3 finish in the final event by relay teams: Gucciardi, Devinney, Vinette, & Kulakowski (4:25.51) and R. Lenning, VanTassel, Carroll, and C. Svoboda (4:32.85), sealed the win 93-77. The team improves to 4-2-1, and faces mighty West Genesee Friday night at Le Moyne College, 7pm. Come check out the Surf!
