CNY CENTRAL-Toyota HS Athlete of the Week: Jaden Zimmer looks to lead C-NS baseball to repeat title
This year, the Northstars are looking to repeat, and they're led by one of the best hitters in Section-III baseball; senior shortstop Jaden Zimmer.   Last year, he led C-NS statistically in batting average, slugging, and stolen bases, hitting .442 on the year. He also anchors the defense at shortstop, bringing an athletic presence to the infield with quick hands and a fast throw to first base.   He also leads the Northstars in the dugout, and is a big reason for head coach Stephan Bailey's belief that the team can defend their Section-III Class AAA title this season.   "It's a good mix of seniors that have been there, done that," said Bailey about this year's squad. "A nice mix of some young guys that are talented, that are still figuring out the game, but the end of the season, I think we're going to have a group that will be able to compete with anyone in the section."   Bailey said the best thing about Zimmer is his unfazed nature, whether he's 3-for-3 at the plate, or struggles like he did in Monday night's win over West Genesee. Though the Northstars won, 3-2, in walkoff fashion in the bottom of the seventh, Zimmer was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.    "The best thing about Jaden is that I don't have to worry about him," said Bailey. "He's going to come back tomorrow ready to work, just like he does everyday, like he's Jaden Zimmer."    Zimmer is committed to play baseball at the Division I level next season at Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland.    He says that his love for the game began from a young age.    "My mom, she bought me a glove when I was in her stomach," said Zimmer. "She got me into baseball, we used to play catch in the road all of the time. And that grew my love for baseball."   "I love our grit, I love these guys," said Zimmer of his final season with C-NS. "I've been growing up playing with all of these seniors, and I'm going to cherish every single minute of it. The dugout, out in the field, up to the plate. Everything, the pressure moments, everything. I'm going to cherish it all."
