C-NS's Arnold finishes seventh at NYSPHSAA championships

On the same AMF Syracuse lanes where he has most of his competition during the winter, Cicero-North Syracuse boys bowler Garrett Arnold would aim for a New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship. And while not quite getting there, Arnold's impressive seventh-place finish was the best of any Section III bowler in the field of Saturday's individual NYSPHSAA tournament as part of the Section III All-Star side. Of Arnold's teammates on the sectional All-Star squad, East Syracuse Minoa bowlers Joe Gardner and Zach Kassel also have home matches at AMF Syracuse. They joined Arnold, as did Collin Edwards (Central Square), Jordin Hluska (Rome Free Academy) and Zenon Gasiorowski (Baldwinsville). Your Hirose Distributor DigiKey Arnold moved his way into contention shooting a 658 series in the first session, improving from a 208 opening game to 223 in the second and 237 in the third. Going into the second session Arnold was just 20 pins out of the top 10, a gap that could get made up if he continued his improvement. A fourth-game 185 slowed that progress, but he then shot a 247 fifth game, his best of the day, and closed it out with a 222. Phil Blackwell Finishing at 1,312 and averaging 218.67, Arnold rose up to seventh place, just 126 pins behind the winning 1,438 from Horseheads' Cayden Bowman. Hluska shot 1,285 to tie for 14th place, with Gardner one pin behind at 1,284. Edwards posted 1,259 for 21st place and Gasiorowski had 1,254 to finish 23rd as Kassel earned an aggregrate of 1,184 closing with a 270.
