When Cicero-North Syracuse boys basketball graduated three point guards last year, coach Kyle Martin needed someone to compliment senior standout Andrew Benedict this season.
Martin turned to senior Nathan Francis. Naturally a wing, Francis transitioned to point guard.
"This year, he had to adjust and (face) more defensive attention," Martin said. "I think once he figured out how to handle it, he felt good about scoring, especially if there's multiple guys on him."
On Wednesday afternoon, Francis put together a solid performance with a career-high 29 points and seven made 3-pointers in C-NS's 78-56 win over West Genesee.

"Nate was fantastic," Martin said. "He was getting to the rim early, leading out in transition and taking great shots from 3-point (range). When he's on, it's hard to stop him. He's a maniac in a good way."
Martin noted that while Benedict is typically the one highlighted for his big scoring numbers, it was Francis's time to shine.
"It's one of those days," Martin said. "(West Genesee) keyed on him defensively. Today, he called for the ball and made enough shots to get those (seven) 3s."
Martin, who noted that Francis is Benedict's "biggest supporter," has seen greatness unfold with his backcourt duo.
Benedict had the second-most points on Wednesday with 24. The senior star knocked down seven free throws and made a trio of 3-pointers.
"The goal was to make sure Nate and Andrew got the ball the most this season, and it's worked out because they have such good chemistry," Martin said. "They tackle things together."
When it comes down to it, Martin said Francis just wants to win.
"He has great leadership," Martin said. "He's so fast with the ball, it gives us another guy (to score) when needed. Nate is the type of guy that makes my job easy."
Also for C-NS, Brennan Tyler scored all of his nine points from beyond the arc.
Clyde Allen and Kolton Castrello both had 11 points for the Wildcats.
Wednesday's game for the Northstars began a stretch of three contests in four days. Next is Auburn on Friday at 6:30 p.m. on C-NS's home court.
