Cicero-North Syracuse senior center Andrew Davis had never scored four goals in a game before.
He dramatically cleared that bar Monday night.
Davis buried a quartet of pucks to spark the Northstars to a 5-4 Division I win over Cazenovia. He came into the game with three goals total in five games this season.
Cazenovia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Northstars scored three straight to grab a 3-2 heading into the first intermission. After a scoreless second, the teams traded goals in the third before Davis settled the issue with a power-play game-winner with 6:09 remaining. "It was a bit of a crazy game. For us to get three straight in the first period to take a lead was really big," said Northstars coach Dan Jones. "It was good resiliency on our team to bounce back. We played with a lot of heart tonight. It was good to see."
Davis was a force both early and late, putting up his team's first two goals and closing with its final two.
"He put the team on his back tonight," Jones said. "He's always working hard. He's always around the net. He doesn't always get the bounces and tonight he willed his way to get them to go in."
Davis described himself as usually more of a playmaker/grinder type than a scorer.
"It was just a matter of confidence," Davis said. "I felt confident with the puck today. You've got to have some confidence if you're going to score four goals. My teammates found me in all the spots. I've got to thank them. I just felt like I couldn't miss the net."
Cole Prevost also scored for C-NS and goalie Leyton Sullivan stopped 25 shots.
Jack Donlin scored twice for the Lakers.
The Northstars' win tightened up what looks to be a heated, multi-team Division I race. The Northstars improved to 4-3-1 while Cazenovia fell to 4-3.
"We knew it was going to be a team that we'll be fighting for position with at the end of the year. They're a really good team. They've got two really good solid lines and some really dynamic players. We just wanted to make sure to shut those players down and to get as many pucks as we could on their net."
