"I'm not sure that the girls recognize the magnitude of their win over J-D," said C-NS Blue coach Chuck Banks." We just went there to play the course and a strong opponent. "I know J-D is a well-coached team and it's a different course than they are used to playing, so my goal was to challenge our girls in their golf game."
Ricciardi shot at 35. She had earned medalist honors in eight of her team's nine matches this season.
"Jessica is an 11th-grader that has been with us since seventh grade," said Banks. "She continues to work hard on her game throughout the year, especially playing tournaments in the summer and aspires to play golf at the collegiate level. As a 10th-grader, she made first-team all-league and had qualifying scores in every match. This was the first time this had happened in C-NS school history for girls golf. Jessica is a leader by example on the team. Her hard work and dedication to the sport has led other players to follow in a similar path."
Isabella Borte shot a 37 and Chloe Tice turned in a 38 for the Northstars (8-1), who compete in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro Division.
"Isabella Borte, a 10th-grader and third-year player on our team, made second-team all-league last year," said Banks. "She continues to improve by playing in tournaments throughout the year. She is traveling to Elmira this weekend to prepare herself for a higher level of competition.
"We also have two eighth-graders, Chloe Tice and Andrea Wheaton, who are fairly new to the game but show great promise for the rest of this year and for our program in the future.
Newman led the Red Rams with a 35. Cleo Shiomos and Sophia Ferris each shot a 41. J-D competes in the SCAC Empire Division.
