Cicero-North Syracuse used depth in the girls' race, while Auburn implemented a strong team effort in the boys' race to take home league trophies.
In the girls' race, C-NS's Kate Putman (17:30.3) and Gabrielle Putman (17:51.9) finished back-to-back in the top two. Marissa Navarra came in fifth for the Northstars (18:54.6). Â
"The team ran a great race individually and as a group," C-NS coach Greg Broton said. "Our top three ran really well and came through for us."
Fayetteville-Manlius, who came in second as a team, saw Hannah Kaercher take fourth (18:42), Isabelle Adrian come in ninth (19:17.4) and Camille Ryan grab 10th (19:17.6).
The Hornets were shorthanded on the course, which is something the Northstars took advantage of on Wednesday, Broton said.
"Today was a great win, but it's still going to be a pretty good dog fight (in sectionals against F-M)," Broton said. Â
Runners will now prepare for the Section III finals on Nov. 5 at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.
"We're in a good spot," Broton said. "Everything is coming together."
