The undefeated Baldwinsville girls volleyball team found itself in an unfamiliar situation in its match against undefeated Cicero-North Syracuse on Monday.
Baldwinsville nearly lost its second set and needed to rally for a 28-26 win.The Bees, who hadn't yielded a set in its previous five matches, lost the first one of the season to the Northstars, 25-19.
"Staying strong on serve, receive and trusting each other were important with the second game win," said Baldwinsville coach Maryjo Cerqua. "C-NS plays gritty defense and forces you to make unforced errors. We needed to play smarter volleyball, focus on our ball control and look to score."
Baldwinsville then turned to Kyrah Wilbur, Gianna May and Jayda Pyle for leadership and guidance in the remaining two matches
"Kyrah Wilbur is our stat leader, yes, but we also depend on Gianna May and Jayda Pyle's leadership," said Cerqua. "The three of them have helped keep everyone grounded, focused and push the team to be better every day."
The Bees went on to their sixth straight win by taking the third and fourth sets, 25-21 and 25-19.
Cicero-North Syracuse fell to 6-1 on the season.
