Christian Cain scored 20 points and West Genesee defeated Cicero-North Syracuse, 59-53, on Tuesday to improve to 5-0 on the season.
"I was really proud of our team pulling out the win tonight," West Genesee coach Fred Kent said. "It's tough playing at C-NS with the student section they have. The teams were even (in the matchup) and every possession was important, but the ball bounced a bit more on our side."
The Northstars (5-1) suffered their first loss of the season.
West Genesee clung to a 16-13 lead after the first quarter. At the half, it was 31-27 Wildcats.
The Wildcats etched out a 15-14 third quarter, and a 13-12 fourth quarter to keep the Northstars at bay for the victory.
Gary McLane finished with 12 points for the Wildcats. Christian Amica added nine points and Jordan Cain and James Tully each contributed eight points.
Kent gave credit to Christian Cain for his performance Tuesday evening.
"He plays so hard. He has an excellent and competitive spirit," Kent said. "He took some big shots and free throws, kept his composure and led with his leadership."
For the Northstars, Luke Paragon and Terrance Coppock Jr. had 16 points apiece.
West Genesee hosts Corcoran on Thursday for a 6:45 p.m. SCAC divisional matchup. C-NS also plays Thursday, heading to Fayetteville-Manlius for an 8 p.m. showdown against the Hornets.
