C-NS sweeps West Genesee, sets up match with undefeated Baldwinsville

Cicero-North Syracuse had no problem with its Class AA girls volleyball quarterfinal on Thursday, sweeping West Genesee 3-0.It wasn't easy for the Northstars: The first two games went to extra points (28-26 and 27-25). "We had to continue our consistency and just play our offense," Northstars head coach Melanie Stonebarger said. "It was a back-and-forth game but we were able to penetrate and win." The Northstars (12-5) relied on the play of sophomore Maddy Howell. Her 18 kills, four blocks and two digs helped them edge the Wildcats, 25-17, to take the third set. "It was a well-rounded team effort tonight," Stonebarger said. "All of the offense played well and we had very consistent serving. The girls played really well as a team." The Northstars move on to the semifinals where it will face top-seeded and undefeated Baldwinsville. The Bees swept the Northstars last Thursday night, but Stonebarger said that's in the past. "We've moved on from the regular season ... that's done," Stonebarger said. "We're preparing every day for our next opponent now."
