"I'm pretty pleased and happy with the win," C-NS coach John Wojcik said. "Our guys played really well."
Wojcik said the Northstars entered this season after losing nine of their 11 starters last year to graduation. The coach, however, said the team has exceeded expectations.
"This team is overachieving in the best way possible," Wojcik said.
Wojcik noted that his doubles teams came through in the clutch for C-NS. The duo of Ryan Keil and Ryan Fehrman lost 7-6 in the first set on a 7-5 tiebreaker. They bounced back with wins in the second and third sets (7-5, 6-3).
C-NS's Austin Fosberg and Joseph Johnston won in two sets, each by 6-0 scores. Dylan Fournier and Thomas Christou (6-3, 6-0), and Gavin Nguyen and Evan Scott (6-4, 6-0) were both victorious for the Northstars.
In singles, C-NS's Parker Cook (6-3, 6-1) and Drew Errante (6-1, 6-3) each won in two sets.
"Everyone played a really good game today," Wojcik said. "We had some guys play out of position because we were missing some, but we figured it out."
Auburn's lone victory was in singles. Riley Fitzgerald notched the win in two sets (6-2, 6-3).
C-NS (7-4) heads to Baldwinsville on Monday to face the second-seeded Bees in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m.
The Northstars lost 7-0 twice to Baldwinsville during the regular season. Despite some adversity, Wojcik noted the individual matchups against the Bees were close.
"It's going to be a tough match," Wojcik said. "We're hoping for a couple of breaks here and there, but we have to play a perfect game. We can't make mistakes."
