Thrilling overtime finish for Cicero-North Syracuse boys soccer against West Genesee

Cicero-North Syracuse and West Genesee were locked in a brutal defensive battle after a scoreless 80 minutes of regulation.  Less than two minutes into the overtime period, C-NS senior Titus Dimitroff nailed the game-winning goal in the Northstars' boys soccer matchup against the Wildcats on Tuesday. The first and second halves of regulation were defined by standout defensive efforts. C-NS and West Genesee both looked impenetrable, and the goalkeepers managed to deflect any shots.   Early in the overtime period, C-NS was able to catch the West Genesee defense lacking and managed to get into scoring position. Star midfielder Dante Melfi delivered a stellar pass to Dimitroff, who knocked the ball into the back of the net.  C-NS goalie Tyler Munnich racked up five saves for the night to secure the shutout. West Genesee goalie Boston Crandall tallied an impressive six saves.
The Northstars' win signifies a tremendous turnaround after a lackluster start to the season. C-NS was winless through six games to open the campaign and are now riding a three-game win streak.  West Genesee is slipping in the opposite direction. After a fantastic 7-1 start to the year, the Wildcats have now dropped three consecutive contests.  C-NS (3-5-1) will have their legitimacy proven with a bout against Fayetteville-Manlius on Oct. 8.
