Quarterback Kyle Vellis connected on two touchdown passes to Donovan Swasey to lead Clifton (N.J.) to a 32-13 win over Cicero-North Syracuse in the Northstars season-opener on Friday in the Carrier Dome.

Vellis completed touchdown passes of 45 and 12 yards to Swasey, the first coming in the second quarter to give the Mustangs 13-0 lead.
The Northstars cut the lead in half at 13-6 when Jamar Ballard scored a touchdown on a 7-yard run. C-NS threatened to score just before the end of the half when Mason Ellis intercepted a pass on the Clifton 20-yard line with 2:02 left in the second quarter.
However, the drive ended when Clifton's Swasey intercepted a pass in the end zone and scampered 101 yards for a touchdown to give the Mustangs a 20-6 lead at halftime.
The final Northstars touchdown came midway in the fourth quarter when Ellis hauled in a 71-yard scoring strike from Jaxon Razmovski.
Cicero-North Syracuse will next play at Nottingham on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
