Girl's Lacrosse Victor Barbosa

West Genesee beats C-NS in OT, 9-8

Gabrielle Meager scored just one of the West Genesee girls lacrosse team's nine goals during their game against Cicero-North Syracuse on Tuesday, but she certainly made it count.  Meager scored the game-winner early in overtime to lift the visitors to a comeback, 9-8 victory.  After back-and-forth play through the first half and much of the second half, the Northstars held an 8-6 lead late in regulation. Caraline Major scored the Wildcats' seventh goal with just over four and a half minutes to go, and Halen Saroney put in her second score off the free position a couple of minutes later to knot it at eight and force overtime.  After C-NS scored the game's first goal, West Genesee recorded four of the next five goals and led 4-2 at halftime. The Northstars then scored four goals in a row out of the break and six of the next eight before the victors mounted their comeback.  Major tied with Olivia Blanding for the team-lead in points with three, as both players notched two goals and one assist. In the loss, Francesca Tortora led her team with a three-goal hat trick, while Mackenzie Prentice notched three points on one goal and two assists.  With the win, the Wildcats improve to 9-4. Following the loss, C-NS is now 9-3.
