Wednesday night's Cicero-North Syracuse and Fayetteville-Manlius girls soccer game between state-ranked opponents lived up to the hype, and then some.
Following an even regulation and most of one overtime period, the visiting Northstars earned a 2-1 victory to stay undefeated.
Victoria Iannotti scored the game-winning goal with 1:38 remaining in the bonus frame.
C-NS entered the week ranked ninth in the state in Class AA, and the Hornets placed 11th. The Northstars are now 11-0-1 this fall and F-M is 8-3-1.
In the 34th minute of action, Morgan Goodman put the hosts on the board via a free kick, and the Hornets led 1-0 at the break. With just over six-and-a-half minutes left in the second half, Ashley Evans converted on a free kick of her own and sent things to overtime knotted at one.
Wednesday was only the fifth game where C-NS allowed a goal – they've surrendered no more than one goal in a game - and they've collected seven shutouts on the year. They'll finish this week with a home match against Homer at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and a bout with Baldwinsville at noon on Saturday, before a rematch against F-M at 7 p.m. on Oct. 14.
