C-NS field hockey shuts out Liverpool, advances to semifinals

The No. 3 seed Cicero-North Syracuse field hockey team advanced to the Section III semifinals after shutting out No. 6 Liverpool, 3-0, on Tuesday. The loss avenged a 1-1 tie with the Warriors just three days ago and pits C-NS against No. 2 Rome Free Academy. The Northstars blanked the Black Knights 5-0 on Sept. 7.
We asked Northstars coach Pat Kennedy about this game and the upcoming semifinal contest.

Q. I noticed that
Gabby Wameling had one goal and two assists. How important was her play today against Liverpool?
A. Gabby has been playing great for us all year and was solid for us again tonight. Her play was a big part of our win. Our entire team did a very nice job of playing together and staying connected. It just happened to be Gabby's night tonight in the scoring column.
Q. What type of momentum does the team now have after tying Liverpool a few days ago and now shutting them out?
A. Our girls stuck to the game plan tonight and just kept applying pressure. Liverpool has a great team full of talented players, so it was nice to get the shutout. But at this time of year, securing the win is the main objective. We will continue to fine-tune things each day at practice with the goal of getting better each day.
Q. You face RFA next, a team you beat 5-0 earlier this season. How do you prepare your team to face them again?
A. That 5-0 win for us is a thing of the past. We are a different team than we were early in the season. One that is hopefully stronger and more experienced. RFA has had a tremendous season so far, and I am sure they are much improved as well. We will continue to work hard each day at practice and take things one day at a time. I know our girls are looking forward to playing them again. They have a very potent attack and have put up some big numbers this year. It's going to be a fun rematch.
